Why do we need amplitude modulation?

It is widely known that broadcasting does not use audio frequency. Messages transmission for broadcasting includes audio frequencies in the range from 20Hz to 20kHz. Although at the receiving end messages are processed in audio frequencies, broadcasting frequencies are much higher than audio frequencies.
